There has been a lot of talk about Councilman Tarrlok. Though I have equalized him, his influence will be felt for a long time. His task force, curfew, and oppressive policies have set a dangerous precedent.

They are mistakes, and while I know the apology doesn’t make up for it, non-benders have made mistakes as well. An enemy of my father turned friend, Jet, was willing to destroy entire towns to rid them of one person. And I’m well aware of the hundred years war. I lost two grandfathers, and a grandmother, as well as my entire race to it.

Then you see that this “Jet“‘s mistakes are paltry compared to the Fire Lords’. Nonbenders are capable of terrible things, but the atrocities committed by benders are always more serious and more violent.

Her mother was also the pioneer of metal bending itself, and no non-bender has come up with a more efficient solution as of yet.

Because nobody has yet tried.

I will see to it that once they can be as efficient as the metalbending police force they will be instated as officers. Lin can be brash, but I will do my best. She feels it necessary to carry on her legacy because that’s how she was raised.

Not all legacies should be carried on.

I know the importance of such a feeling, as I have to carry on the legacy of an Avatar while missing 3 elements, and the connections to the Avatar lineage.

The structure of the police force has been a standing issue, but crime levels rising hasn’t allowed for enough time to refine it as of yet.

Then why was it not reformed before the crime wave? When will the level of crime be low enough for reform to happen? I know a poor excuse when I hear it.

Tarrlok did conceal his bloodbending, but my father led an investigation to discover more bloodbenders and it came up that Yakone was the only one.

And yet he failed to uncover Yakone’s son.

Forgive me if I doubt the results of such an investigation. Unless one of the Avatar’s many powers is bending radar…?

We will once again have the forces to deal with these situations when the Avatar learns airbending and energy bending.

The Avatar is only one woman, and a very young, inexperienced one at that. It is pathetic that peace depends on a single soul. Say something happened to the Avatar Spirit— would we be at war again?

Take responsibility for your own failures. Do not blame them on your pupil.

He was elected by the citizens of Republic City. I am not sure why you did not vote, perhaps you were too young? The Council does need a little more refinement, including an impeachment process for corrupt officials.

I will not ignore people in need. My mother was one of the most compassionate people the world has known. Fortunately, I inherited that trait from her. I will be visiting some of the non-bending neighborhoods shortly to begin trying to make things fairer for non-benders, and creating greater punishments for benders abusing their power.

I can assure you that I personally will fight for your rights, and I will make your word present and effective.

How noble of you, to extend kindness only after you are challenged.

What will happen when you leave, when you’re not around to slap benders on the wrist and wag your finger in their face? You cannot stop your kind from hurting us until your kind is robbed of its power.

My father ensured that non-benders would not fear other benders. You may speak but you speak with outright fear.

Removing our bending is the scariest thing to us. It is our way of life and nature. It is a part of us and when it has been torn from us it is the worst feeling in the world.

Your father did nothing of the sort! We have a right to be afraid! Do not speak to us about fear— You do not know what it is like to live knowing you could be burned alive or drowned simply for blinking at the wrong time or saying the wrong thing or simply walking on the wrong side of the street.

If we are sometimes moved by fear and anger, then so be it. This so-called spiritual violation would seem like nothing after one day of living like us.

But know this: we may be afraid, but we are not cowards. Our words carry the ring of truth, no matter how much you try to deny it.

My father did it to me so I may be able to teach the technique to Korra when he passed.

I doubt you are an energybender. Someone with a true heart and a true mind would not endorse the callous lies you spout.

The spiritual violation is reaching inside someone and bending their spirit to remove their bending. At least, that is how my father was able to remove bending. He only resorted to this when absolutely necessary. My intention was not to offend you.

It is too late.

I will do what I can in my power to ensure that things are made fair. We will hold an election to elect the Northern Water Tribe executive and you will all be allowed to vote. By the proportions of the city, where non-benders outweigh the benders 2:1, you should have a non-bender councilman elected.

A non-bender councilman when we outnumber benders 2:1?

We will go from being unrepresented to being comically underrepresented! What a boon!

And if a non-bender councilman were guaranteed by non-benders’ numbers, wouldn’t the entire council save you be non-benders? I doubt your rosy predictions almost as much as I doubt the legitimacy of the elections.
